Client Requirement & Operating Constraints

A port silo station needed support structures and trusses for conveyor bridges and elevator towers, built for conveyor dynamic loads and coastal wind.

Strict defined criteria:

  • Design for coastal wind and dynamic loads.
  • Marine corrosion protection for 20 years.
  • Bolted erection with no site welding.

Mega Steel Scope of Work (Execution Phases)

  1. Phase 01

    Structural Design

Full structural analysis of trusses and towers in SAP2000.

  2. Phase 02

    Fabrication & Drilling

CNC cutting and drilling of every joint for an exact fit.

  3. Phase 03

    Hot-Dip Galvanizing

Full hot-dip galvanizing followed by a marine paint coat.

  4. Phase 04

    Site Erection

Crane erection with high-strength bolted connections.

Engineering Materials & Alloys Used

Certified, documented engineering

  • S275 and S355 structural steel
  • HSFG high-strength bolts
  • Hot-dip zinc coating
  • Multi-coat marine paint

ENGINEERING BOTTLENECKS

The Project’s Complex Engineering Challenges

  • Highly Corrosive Marine Air

Port humidity and salt attack unprotected steel within months.

  • Erection at Height

Conveyor bridges more than 40 m up, above an operating station.

ENGINEERED RESOLUTION

Innovative Engineering Solutions Applied

  • A Duplex Protection System

Hot-dip galvanizing plus marine paint to multiply the protection life.

  • Ground-Assembled Bridges

Bridges assembled whole on the ground and lifted in one piece to limit work at height.
